Power Systems Virtualization Workshop.

Session Abstract:

 
In this workshop we will cover the items you'll need and go through the process of converting your current single partition Power System server into a virtualized one.  
  • Hardware Management Console (HMC) what it does, basic setup, user management, backup, HMC Updates.
  •  
  • Selecting your hosting environment. We'll compare VIOS and IBM i as the host partition and give pointers as to which is the best for you, and WHY!
  •  
  • We'll discuss many of the hardware options needed for virtulization and configuration rules and migration to a hosted environment.
  •  
  • Then we will build a guest partition showing all the needed components and we'll fire it up.
  •  
    The session is based on IBM i 7.1 and 7.2 on POWER7 and POWER8 servers.

    Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the basiscs of the HMC System Console

  • Know which environment is correct for you.
  •  
  • Know the hardware pieces you'll need and how they will be shared.
  •  
  • Know how to convert your single partition server to a virtualized and partition server.

    Audience:

    IBM i System Administrators tasked with virtualization.

    Level:

    This session is intermediate to advanced and expects attendees know a little about IBM i and virtualization concepts.

    Duration:

    This is a 7 Hour (All Day) session.
